These are our three February wine club selections:

6-pack of reds for R713.00 containing:
Rascallion Pandiculation 2015 is a blend of 85% Shiraz with 15% unwooded Grenache Noir. Sleek, juicy red fruit with hints of lavendar and spice. Smooth & enjoyable.
Ou Treffer Cinsaut (de Kleinewijn Ko-op) 2016 from Stellenbosch bushvines planted in 1952. Whole bunch fermented then basket pressed into a single 500l barrel. Light-medium body with plenty of flavour. Starting to open up.
Riverhorse Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 2016 is a 50/50 split from Stellenbosch fruit. Super value at under R90.00/bottle, this 4* Platter wine will develop over the next 5 years. Unfiltered.
Gabrielskloof Shiraz 2015 – a full flavoured wine with plums and baking spice. Only 10% new oak was used. Good concentration & a long finish. Will develop over next 3 years.
Circumstance Mourvedre 2015 by Waterkloof has an appealing mix of floral, savoury & spicy elements. Fruit from 2 biodynamically farmed vineyards is whole bunch fermented (spontaneous fermentation) and macerated for 1  month before being basket pressed into old 600l French oak. Supple & more-ish. Serve slightly chilled.
Doolhof Cape Boar 2015 is super value!! Definitely worth stocking up on. A classic blend of Cab Sauv and Merlot, this is a medium-bodied silky wine with a fine, dry finish.

6-pack of whites for R654.00 containing:

Rascallion 331/3 rpm a tasty blend of Chenin Blanc , Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Viognier & Verdelho from Piekenierskloof. Free-run juice of each varietal was fermented in stainless steel and then blended. Blossoms and white pear with quince & pineapple.

Saboteur White by Luddite Wines 2017 (bottled under crown cap) A complex blend of Chenin Blanc, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc coming in at 12.5% alc. The chenin and viognier were skin-fermented and the Sauvignon Blanc was fermented in barrel and batonaged to give as much richness as possible.

Waverley Hills Pinot Grigio 2017 – an organic, fresh and zippy white for any occasion

Saltare Brut Nature MCC by Carla Pauw. Zero dosage and no added sulphur. It spends a minimum of 18 months on the lees. On the richer side of local MCCs, it has tangerine, almond and biscuity notes. The palate shows delicate flavours of gooseberry, honey-cake, lime, strawberry and fresh white peach.

Lomond Sauvignon Blanc 2017 from the Cape Agulhas region is fresh with a rich, full citrus core & hints lemon grass and greengage.

MIA Chenin Blanc 2017 by Stofberg Family a fresh and crisp chenin showing green pear and apple notes. Integrated and well-balanced.

6-pack mixed red & white for R700.00 containing:

Rascallion 45 rpm 2016 is a blend of Grenache Noir , Cinsaut, Mouverdre & Tannat. Each component was tank fermented on its own prior to blending. Blackberry, sweet dark fruit on the palate with hints of cloves and aniseed.

Kottabos Grenache noir /Syrah 2017 by Reenen Borman at Boschkloof shows plenty of red cherry/berry fruit & a hint of fresh herbs & spice. Although tasty right now, it will definitely reveal more complexity with time.

Gabrielskloof The Blend 2015 is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Dense, concentrated fruit with soft tannins. A super wine that’s sure to improve if you manage to stash some for a few years.

Lomond SSV (sauvignon blanc/semillon/viognier) 2016 is a well-balanced blend from this Elim producer. White fruit / citrus & hints of herbs/fynbos.

Carinus Family Chenin Blanc 2016 is produced from a Swartland vineyard farmed by … a member of the Carinus family. The wine is made by Lukas van Loggerenberg. A beauty! Rich, complex, textural ………

Two Dogs a Peacock and a Horse Sauvignon Blanc 2017 by Black Elephant Vintners. Not too fruity, not too herbaceous, this is a wonderful option.
